Probably not your problem, but it could be. You are NOT following the published procedure for updating your system. You should do the following: 1) make buildworld 2) make buildkernel 3) make installkernel 4) reboot to single user mode 5) make installworld Because you dropping into single user and not re-booting you are: 1) Not confirming that the new kernel actually works before installing the whole new system 2) Running installworld with the old kernel That said, I suspect something else is wrong.
