The LINT has the following lines # Network interfaces: `cx', `ed', `el', `ep', `ie', `is', `le', `lnc' # # ar: Arnet SYNC/570i hdlc sync 2/4 port V.35/X.21 serial driver (requires sppp) # cs: IBM Etherjet and other Crystal Semi CS89x0-based adapters # cx: Cronyx/Sigma multiport sync/async (with Cisco or PPP framing) # ed: Western Digital and SMC 80xx; Novell NE1000 and NE2000; 3Com 3C503 # el: 3Com 3C501 (slow!) # ep: 3Com 3C509 I use a 3C509 (aka device ep) to connect to my DSL modem. I tried using a "ed" based card and never got it to work. I could get a ep for $10 and it worked on the first kernel. I ended up with an IRQ conflict when I pulled the Intel 100+ that I was using for my main NIC. I used a Win98se startup disk and used the 3Com config to change the IRQ, which got rid of that problem. > Has support for these devices been > removed from the standard install kernel? I have only done installs from a CDROM. I did download the iso's for 4.0 and 4.1 burn them as images on a W2K machine.
