If so, the Makefile will pick that instead of freebsd.mc. As long as the .mc file uses OSTYPE(freebsd4) and nothing else overrides LOCAL_MAILER_PATH, the definition of LOCAL_MAILER_PATH in /usr/src/contrib/sendmail/cf/ostype/freebsd4.m4 should override the default in local.m4. For doing final delivery to /var/mail/username you need to use /usr/libexec/mail.local if you are running FreeBSD 4.x, unless you have installed some other local delivery agent such as procmail, etc. This is what I've got in my /etc/mail/freebsd.cf file, which is created from freebsd.mc, on my 4.9-STABLE machine. Mlocal, P=/usr/libexec/mail.local, F=lsDFMAw5:/|@qPSXfmnz9, S=EnvFromSMT P/HdrFromL, R=EnvToL/HdrToL, T=DNS/RFC822/SMTP, A=mail.local -l I have not made any modifications to /usr/src/contrib/sendmail/*
