Since you don't have enough info here to be sure, I can't help much; you =
may already know this, but one thing to keep in mind: when assigning to =
an interface an alias  which is on the same subnet as an existing =
address, you should use the netmask 255.255.255.255; and at least one of =
the addresses from that subnet should be assigned with a "real" netmask.

The fact that the use of only the .1 address gives complaints leads me =
to believe that the latter could be your problem.
