Thank you for the suggestion, but I was looking for a GUI client.

Thanks also to everyone who tried to help in any way.
Currently I'm trying to setup a new profile in ThunderBird, as it seems 
this might solve the slowness.
The reason I'm doing this, behind being accustomed to it, is that I need 
to support TB for my customers, so if I use it myself, it'll probably 
easier.

If, after adding account after account, extension after extension, 
option after open, etc... it gets slower again, I'll try claws-mail first.
