Reality can always beat imagination. :-)

My wife's latest smartphone only supports MTP, not direct USB disk 
access. The excuse is along the lines of "direct disk access lets you 
alter bits you probably shouldn't, so we only support MTP for your 
protection". Or in plain English, "we've dumbed it down for idiots, so 
the intelligent must act like idiots as well".
