I get similar errors on my Maxtor 2.0GB EIDE set as slave, but I
think its because I kicked the server a few months back (sliding my
chair back, my foot slipped and my boot and my size 13 foot WALLOPED
the case....

Ouch.

ever since then it has had problems, I replaced the maxtor (it was
master) with an NEC 2.0gb and its GREAT, runs like a ROCKET, but the
Maxtor still screws up, even after 'newfs'ing the drive.  I wish
there was something like 'scandisk' that did a sector-by-sector
scan..  fsck is just for the FAT basically, so its useless unless you
kicked your computer when it was reading the fat...
