This port was creating patches/patch-ab in pre-patch and removing it
in pre-clean. No wonder Steve's fix (which went in patch-ab) did not
help. :<
I have no idea how it got past me. I'm now going to sit in the corner
for awhile and ponder how I can prevent this from happening again.
Found by: cvs quietly waiting for me to enter a commit message
for patch-ab after the previous commit to Makefile
