I dunno whether this is a problem in the handbook or the code,
but Section 6.12.3 of the handbook says to

   # sh MAKEDEV vn0

When I try this, I get:

   # sh MAKEDEV vn0
   MAKEDEV: line 1419: syntax error near unexpected token `)'
   MAKEDEV: line 1419: `   )'

OTOH, this works fine:

   # ./MAKEDEV vn0
