The best way around motherboard sound problems is to disable sound in the BIOS and install a $15 PCI Soundblaster. Plug and forget. I've fought with motherboard sound on one Asus board and failed to ever get it to make a peep. Likewise with a couple of ISA sound boards that were oddball but should have worked. On an MSI motherboard, sound worked right off, although it's low level and somewhat tinny. In the first three cases, a cheap Soundblaster clone worked fine the first time.
