Greg, Your comment got me thinking and I realized that I upgraded from 3.4 to 4.0 via 'make world'. This doesn't upgrade /stand/sysinstall. I didn't do the extra step to install it because the docs say its not necessary (I know - I should know better.) Anyways, I suspected that maybe the 3.4 sysinstall looked for slightly different /dev entries or whatever (i.e. something different from 'disklabel').
