ata66 needs the 80 conductor cable just like ata100. ata33 and slower uses the old 40 conductor cable. the controllers fall back based on cable and drive performance. -----Original Message----- From: Francisco Reyes [mailto:fran@reyes.somos.net] Sent: Friday, August 11, 2000 8:01 AM To: Gary T. From what I quoted/read it seems that ATA66 can use a 40 wire cable, but ATA100 needs the 80 wire one. In others, yes one can buy a cable that can work for both, one can also buy a cable that transmits at the ATA66 speed, but not at the ATA100. francisco Moderator of the Corporate BSD list http://www.egroups.com/group/BSD_Corporate To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-hardware" in the body of the message To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-hardware" in the body of the message
