You didn't listen. I don't think anyone explained how "device lpt0 at ppbus?" worked when lpt0 is actually "at isa0 port ? tty irq 7". Apparently: 1) The wrong bus works because config(8) doesn't produce any bus-dependent wiring. 2) The missing "port ?" works because we don't distinguish between "no port at all" and "port at an address that will be determined at boot time", and lpt supports determining the address at boot time. 3) The missing "tty" is harmless for polled i/o. 4) The missing "irq 7" gives polled i/o.
