I think I've spotted the bottleneck. But I don't know how to fix it.

Playing off the dvd-drive and I get a thoroughput at ~2MB/s. Copying off
the dvd-drive it's up to about ~20-25 MB/s (UDMA33). And playing off the
harddrive CPU becomes the bottleneck (as it should) and thus only skips a
"few" frames.

Copying and playing of the dvd-drive simultaniously gives a thoroughput at
~2MB/s and makes movies unplayable. It's as if xine fix the drive at a to
slow speed (1x?). Can I fix this somehow?
