Hi, I've done it again... Start a fresh install of 3.1 run through fdisk/disklabel/distributions then i get to the "would you like to visit the configuration screen to set any final options?" so I say 'Yes'. I go off and do what I need to do. then it happens... I manage to loose the end of the process and I can't find my way back into the final part of the install. As a result the next time boot, I can't, the install is only partially complete. I've done maybe 400 install of FreeBSD and I'm still making this mistake. Personally I'm not really too put off by this, but it's not good if a new user suffers this problem. Would some sort of sanity check be in order? (For the install not me!) My second gripe is the kernel configuration file. My lecturers would have marked it down for insufficient comments and there is no excuse. Why should I have to have a browser and a paper manual to find out the significance of the scbus0 controller? To name but one device. As I see it there is no excuse for the lack of comments. It's a particular painful experience if you want to produce a really lean kernel. An hour spent commenting this file would save a ton of work for the users... If anyone would like help doing this I will be more than happy to offer any assistance I can give. Apart from these gripes thanks for a great operating system.
