It sounds an awful lot like the problem extra-dix_events.c fixes,
but I'm at a loss how this could come up again.  If you look at
xorg-server/Makefile, Xorg 1.7.7 gets the patch, and I can confirm
that Xorg 1.12.4 doesn't need it (integrated upstream).
