Thanks, your reply is much appreciated. I'll check later if indeed was the cause, but will use a different machines for that. (Now that this host boots fine, I prefer to get it up and running asap). Note that the FreeBSD handbook says the max size of the boot partition is 512kByte, so I'm going for that. Just a last check (in case anyone knows): Is this error: ZFS: unsupported ZFS version 5000 (should be 28) printed by the code present on the boot partition, or is it printed by /boot/loader on the regular disk.
