Why don't you try to make this (and other disk utilities) use libufs, and
just unify the error messages in there?  I've been working on an Object
API which I might throw into libufs which might make adding exceptions
to the code (simulated right now, sorta) trivial, but for now, unifying
how things are done would make it easy to unify errors.
