It was a strange situation. I took out the hard drive and put it into another machine, and the error was gone. Bought another, drive put it into the original machine and no more error. Go figure....LOL. Now if anyone can explain why "make buildworld" and then "make installworld" eventually fail but "make world", which to my understanding does both build and install, goes thru fine?
