Definitely not. Actually, before each est, I did 'rm -R work'. The
only thing I could imagine is that remains from a previous port
version were left in the patch directory, since I installed the
upgraded ports collection on top of the original 3.1-RELEASE version.

I'll give it a try. Does this mean you will upgrade the whole
gnome port including all dependencies ?
BTW - this whole thing of spreading the gnome sub-ports across
the whole ports tree is somehwat difficult to handle (in theory, a
make in the gnome master port directory does the trick, but since
things like make fetch don't work this way, this doesn't really help
in quite some cases...)
