I had the same thing happen on a 486VLB box with the same controller and an 850MB Maxtor, before and after moving to the slice code. I ended having to boot off a floppy with a kernel image on it using -rwd0. Once the kernel was in memory it could talk to the controller just fine and see all the partitions. Always had to boot off a floppy, and I was too lazy to see if it was a geometry problem. Joseph D. Orthoefer
