Note.. this does indeed only have ONE HD drive installed.  There is also a 
scsi cdrom drive, also I don't see it in the probes.  But had the same 
result when I removed that drive anyway (I installed via floppies and FTP).

Another interesting thing is de0, the DEC Ethernet de500 card MADE FOR 
ALPHA comes up with underruns, and refuses to work at 100meg, only 10 meg. 
Thus, I tossed in the 3com.
I also need to trim down GENERIC, but not knowing the architecture, not 
sure what to take out, other than just going by the dmesg, and take out the 
devices that are not found, and that I know are not in there.

Plans for this box are generally just a small server; mySQL for call 
accounting (2nd database, the important stuff goes into an oracle 
database), web server (just something small for various graphs), maybe 
dialin pool via a comtrol rocketport card (4 or 8 ports), mrtg host to poll 
about 20 SNMP devices around campus, file store (if I can get the other 
drives installed and working), x11 host, and maybe some other small things.
Really, I'm anxious to see what this Alpha can excel at.  What types of 
processes should I load onto this thing to make good use of it?  In the 
past, I've only worked with FreeBSD on x86 boxes.
