I'm asking for some public review on this patch (and a little
help on the bits still marked "???"). I've tried to update
hier.7 to something remotely recent, with the help of Rich
Morin's PR on this subject (#24010). So far this seems to
address just about everything this file needs to be useful again.
Anybody have any feedback? I'd like to commit this within a
week, if possible.
