Try editing /etc/ssh/sshd_config and uncomment the lines: 

PubkeyAuthentication yes
PasswordAuthentication yes
PermitEmptyPasswords no
ChallengeResponseAuthentication yes
UsePAM yes

This will reactivate the automatic login stuff...
