Thanks for picking this up so quickly. FYI, the reason I like to go with sed (or if necessary to match existing style, reinplace), particularly for something that is both small and will show up in a future version of the software, is to save disk space/inodes/cvs history for something that is at worst a temporary fix. Obviously doing it as a patch works just as well however, and once again thanks for jumping on this right away.
