What does Debian VM on bhyve report for:

/sys/class/block/<disk>/queue/physical_block_size

If it is the same as what you see on VirtualBox, then there is something else
at play here.

Have you tried installing MSSQL natively using RHEL/Clone or Ubuntu VM instead
of using Debian?
