Matlab runs, complains about /dev/ptmx, does *not* (as far as I can
tell) generate the ioctl complaints, and *does* quit fine.

The device would be nice, but basic Matlab seems to work OK without
it.

According to John E Hein (August 8, 2001):
| I just installed matlab version 6.1.0.450 (R12.1) and have a similar
| problem to Shiro. I don't get any warning about /dev/ptmx, but I DO
| get the following in /var/log/messages, and I am also unable to quit
| (like Shiro). Other than these symptoms, matlab seems to work fine.

| First... is anyone else able to successfully quit matlab?
