https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D241635 Bug ID: 241635 Summary: tr(1) produces ridiculous error message Product: Base System Version: 12.0-RELEASE Hardware: Any OS: Any Status: New Severity: Affects Some People Priority: --- Component: bin Assignee: bugs@FreeBSD.org Reporter: rfg-freebsd@tristatelogic.com The tr(1) command can sometimes produce the following error message: tr: Illegal byte sequence Perhaps rms is not the best person to be quoting anymore thes days, but I clearly remember, back in the day, he used to always poke fun at this kind = of silly error message. "Illegal" ??? Will I be taken to jail now? Gosh I hope not. If I am going to be busted and taken to jail, I would prefer that it be for some REALLY henious crime... not for merely passing an "illegal" byte seque= nce into the tr utility. Somebody should fix the message so that it ain't so silly. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.=
