Hm, yes, I had some em cards running on both -current and RELENG_5,
so this sounds like a reasonable idea.

Well, boot it does, but it appears to get stuck in the SCSI probes.
Have you tried with the RAIDarray3000 disconnected (the HSZ22 device
is a raidbox). 

Bernd, AS1200 is close to your AS4100, have you seen something similar?
