For the rationale behind this, see the commit message for rev. 1.28 of src/sys/netinet6/in6_ifattach.c: http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/cvsweb.cgi/src/sys/netinet6/in6_ifattach.c This isn't to say that this decision couldn't be revisited, but that's why things are the way they are now. It looks like it'd be a one-line change to enable this, but it's not clear if this is the right thing to do or not. Bruce.
