The file file ware removed due to security considerations. Promises were made that procfs would be enhanced to deal with this, but no code ever was committed. The file file has been restored as a symbolic link in newer versions of 4.0, so this functionality will return. In the mean time kill -10 will do just about the same thing as gcore.
