Hi,
My RealTek 8139 based card seems to be dying without warning.
All my sessions to my FreeBSD (4.3-Stable) box keep mysteriously dying, but
nothing to indicate foul play in dmesg. ifconfig even shows the interface as
RUNNING when I check. However, "ifconfig rl0 down;ifconfig rl0 up" seems to
fix the problem.
A search on the mailing list archives mentioned that they were "broken by
design", but my further search on geocrawler yielded nothing of help.
here's the bits from my dmesg:
[timberwolf][10:20pm] /home/haikal> dmesg |grep rl0
rl0: <RealTek 8139 10/100BaseTX> port 0xd000-0xd0ff mem
0xe0d01000-0xe0d010ff irq 10 at device 9.0 on pci0
rl0: Ethernet address: 00:48:54:87:cf:6d
miibus0: <MII bus> on rl0
and,
[timberwolf][10:20pm] /home/haikal> ifconfig rl0
rl0: flags=8843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
inet 192.168.1.100 netmask 0xffff0000 broadcast 192.168.255.255
inet6 fe80::248:54ff:fe87:cf6d%rl0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x1
ether 00:48:54:87:cf:6d
media: Ethernet autoselect (100baseTX <full-duplex>)
status: active
All connections to the internet (using ppp) are fine.
Any ideas what's wrong?
Thanks.
