Ran the command again, and it failed again, dang it.
After running it again this morning, issuing
'll /var/db/freebsd-update/files | wc -l'
yields 43625 files - only 9 of them were dated today.
Issuing
'wc -l /var/db/freebsd-update/files.wanted'
yields '36196 /var/db/freebsd-update/files.wanted'
