I have done so (run these commands while in normal multi-user mode)
without ill effect. But, I had the luxury of doing it on a PC where
no-one else was busy. Anyway, I got the feeling that it was safe
because there were no warnings to the contrary :) I seem to recall that
the man page indicated that the -B option would replace the boot manager
code (the boot program), but it does not touch the existing partition
tables, etc. Do, it *should* be safe.

Well, if there is risk, it did not bite me :) No harm in being cautious
though. Mike might have a more authoritative answer here. I did not
need to make any changes to the slices/labels/etc. It would appear that
the boot code is smart enough to see all the slices, and present them in
the boot menu automatically. I guess if you are "demoting" to autoboot,
and there is more than one partition available, then you might want to
first make sure the one you want to autoboot is marked as "active" ?!?

You havn't seen me !

Hey - I've had so much assistance from this community, I try to give
back if I can.
