/etc/hosts lets me define an alias to an IP address. Is there any way to define an alias in such a way that DNS lookup *would* be performed, but only on an expanded name of the host? For example, I'd like to alias `cdf.utoronto.ca' to `cdf', without having to enter its IP address (which can theoretically change) into /etc/hosts.
