1.7.2 has actually been running pretty well for us <knocking on wood> and
expires have been taking a normal amount of time. I noticed under 1.5.2
that if I ran my expires from news' cron it took a lot longer. Seemed that
it was starting up about 5 or 6 copies of itself. I changed my cron to run
from root with a "su news ..." and expires started working correctly after
that.
I have also been running the 1.1d-insync patches that are available for it
on an HP-UX system and it has REALLY been running like a champ. I have
tried to get it to run under FBSD but with no avail. I can get it to
compile but for some reason it totally stops allowing feeders. Maybe
someone smarter than me can port the patches.
