It wasn't present in FreeBSD 1, thus you can rely on the CVS history (and no, it was really missing in FreeBSD 2.0, i've checked the CD :). The man page to su(4) seems to be wrong to me. At least the file su.c wasn't present before FreeBSD 1.1. Maybe i'm mistaken and the functionality was indeed present in 386BSD 0.1, but in a different file.
