I think we should just use the version distributed by the FSF. The only reason to changing things locally is if there would be some improvement. That isn't the case here. FWIW, ache has done lots of commits related to getopt since I reported the problem I was seeing. He attributed the problem to the POSIXLY_CORRECT environment variable which accounts for why most people didn't get bitten. -- John Birrell
