Thanks Kevin I have tried the ls -FG option, but it doesn't work. That's what led me to the conclusion that I needed colorls. I have installed gnuls, (still have to read the man page yet) but that seems to be working, an LS gives colors to certain files. I added that gnuls alias too if you are reading this Dev :) Thanks again I will explore the option of CLICOLOR - haven't heard of that one before, I ll look it up and give it a try.
