Are you sure this is ok for RELENG_6?  My copy of the
RELENG_6 sources includes:

src/sys/i386/conf$ grep 'device[[:space:]]\+fd' GENERIC NOTES ../../conf/NOTES
GENERIC:device          fdc
../../conf/NOTES:device         fddi                    #Generic FDDI
../../conf/NOTES:device         fdc
../../conf/NOTES:# fpa:  Support for the Digital DEFPA PCI FDDI. `device fddi' is also needed.
