I have built computer with a asus a7a-133 motherboard which has a ALiMAGiK1 M1647 chipset. I'm also using a Matrox G400 video card and FreeBSD 4.5-RELEASE. It reboots if I startx or XFree86 -configure with XFree86 4.1. I checked some websites before I bought it to make sure it worked well. I found reference to it working fine on linux so I figured it would be fine on freebsd. I was surprised when it crashed when I tried to configure X or use my old XF86Config. I searched google and the mailing list for the motherboard and chipset. It seems to be a well known problem with freebsd and Xfree86 4.1 that doesn't effect linux. Xfree86 3.3.6 does work so I'm ok for now. I wondered if any work was being done on fixing this problem? I'm also curious about what is causing it?
