I tested the smist driver on my Compaq Presario 1800T (440BX chipset w/ 
900/700MHz Pentium 3).  I used it as a kernel module with powerd on 
-CURRENT.  It worked for all settings (including adaptive mode).  Thank 
you Bruno!
