The traceroute uses udp and by definition, udp takes the best route at any given time; out of sequence arrival, etc.
Traceroute can only show you one way path, however, some versions of traceroute should have "-s" option which allows you to specify the source of the packet to trace from.  If you got multiple nics, the -s will help you originate the packets from that particular interface using ip though not name.

You need someone at the other end to do the same and then you may have a complete turnaround path for that moment in time!

Hello,

 I am looking for an option with traceroute that will show you the route you take externally
and back internally. Basically so if I am multihomed and I leave one way and come back
through a different circuit it will show both paths. Unfortunaly I could not find an option
with this. Does anyone know of a different version of traceroute or maybe a different program
or an option with traceroute that I do not know of ?
