A change will shortly be made to the 2.2.5-STABLE tree which will change the way that the root filesystem is mounted at boot time. This only affects systems booting from sliced disks, ie. where FreeBSD was installed so as to be compatible with other operating systems. Currently, the system mounts the root filesystem using the compatability slice. This will be discontinued, and instead the correct slice will be mounted. In order to deal with the change, mount has been updated to handle old /etc/fstab files (ie. those that refer to the compatability slice for the root filesystem). You must update mount before booting a new kernel. If there is a mismatch between your /etc/fstab file and the mounted root filesystem, mount will emit a warning diagnostic. The diagnostic is harmless, and can be ignored if you require the ability to boot older kernels. -- \\ Sometimes you're ahead, \\ Mike Smith \\ sometimes you're behind. \\ mike@smith.net.au \\ The race is long, and in the \\ msmith@freebsd.org \\ end it's only with yourself. \\ msmith@cdrom.com To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-stable" in the body of the message
