I believe it is still relevant as newbies are the ones who have to drive FreeBSD into the market to eventually get the changes "we" may want. Without a growing newbie population, FreeBSD will end up being used by a few crusty old sysadmins sitting around "when I was your age, Microsoft only had 5 versions of Windows!
