in fact, i tried these patches just yesterday, and they turned to
be a no-op for my 4236B because the procedure that checks for mode3
regs just failed (it uses registers that might not be writeable at that
time). Fix is trivial, and i just reported it to jose.  I wonder
if you are  in the same situation.

This is just one of those cases where testing needs a bit of
time and care...
