This shouldn't happen, but it's unrelated to etcupdate.

What do the following commands say:

    find / -type f -name libmd.so.* 2>/dev/null
    find / -type f -perm 0111 -name mtree 2>/dev/null

and for each file the second command finds, e.g. /usr/sbin/mtree:

    ldd /usr/sbin/mtree
