FWIW, I have a Yamaha 8424S which works fine with cdda2wav.

ahc0: <Adaptec 2930CU SCSI adapter> port 0x8400-0x84ff mem
0xd6000000-0xd6000fff irq 9 at device 13.0 on pci0
aic7860: Ultra Single Channel A, SCSI Id=7, 3/255 SCBs

cd0 at ahc0 bus 0 target 3 lun 0
cd0: <YAMAHA CRW8424S 1.0d> Removable CD-ROM SCSI-2 device
cd0: 20.000MB/s transfers (20.000MHz, offset 15)

I've almost never been able to rip audio out of my ide drive though.
