I've seen similar to this before... Make sure your not trying to run remote
GDB across the serial console? (without it's counterpart on the other end)...

I can't understand your connect statement above? - If you connecting to the
serial port how come you get "Trying xx.xx.xxx ..."? - I thought that was only
from telnet?
