I have my router set to send messages to syslog on my FreeBSD system when connect attempts and the like are discarded, but nothing is being logged. When I look at traffic with tcpdump, there are lots of messages being sent to FreeBSD by the router, but I don't know where they are going. What do I have to do to make this work? Currently I have syslogd starting with "-a 10.0.0.0/24:*" as options (the router is at 10.0.0.30). The router is supposed to be sending messages as facility local1, so I have local1.* /var/log/router.log in the syslog.conf file. What am I doing wrong? Is there a tool that will show me the contents of the packets being sent by the router, so I can see exactly what facility and text it is actually sending?
